Ten professional male cyclists completed a laboratory-based cycling time trial after pre-race ingestion of a 1,3-butanediol acetoacetate diester. The study aimed to investigate the effect of this diester on blood ketone concentration, substrate metabolism, and cycling performance. The results indicated that the ingestion of the diester increased blood ketone concentration, improved substrate metabolism, and increased performance in the cycling time trial.
